Welcome to Craig Thompson's Page
Dear Friends -
It has been my privilege to head this incredible organization for over 18 years. Since our founding in 1983, AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) has been the leader in Los Angeles in providing critical services to men, women and families with HIV/AIDS and in working to slow the epidemic through effective, science-based HIV prevention programs.
I have never been as excited about our future as I am today; or as confident in our ability to BOTH help low income people struggling with HIV/AIDS AND systematically work to end the epidemic by providing comprehensive medical services to those at highest risk of acquiring HIV disease - including gay and bisexual men and transgender individuals.
With the recent expansion of our mission and name change to "APLA Health" we are working to "achieve health care equity and promote well-being for the LGBT and other underserved communities and people living with and affected by HIV."
In 2014 we became a federally qualified health center and we now have clinic locations in South Los Angeles and Long Beach serving more than 14,000 people annually. APLA Health provides 20 different services from 15 locations throughout Los Angeles County, including: primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care; HIV specialty care, PrEP counseling and management; health education and HIV prevention; and STD screening and treatment. For people living with HIV, we offer housing support; benefits counseling; home health care; and the Vance North Necessities of Life Program food pantries; among several other critically needed services. Additionally, we are leaders in advocating for policy and legislation that positively impacts the LGBT and HIV communities, provide capacity-building assistance to health departments across the country, and conduct community-based research on issues affecting the communities we serve.
I would be so honored if you could make a contribution to support our work and help your friends and neighbors in Los Angeles.
All the best, Craig
