Welcome to Robyn Goldman's Page
It’s that time again! AIDS Walk Los Angeles is on October 23, 2016. AIDS Walk is an amazing event, now in its 32nd year, where over 20,000 supporters, including 1,100 corporate teams, come together to raise money and show their support for those living with HIV and the future hope for a cure. This is my 6th year with APLA, and my 7th AIDS Walk, and the funs we raise are just as important as ever.
The last few years have been incredibly exciting and full of growth for APLA. In 2013, we branched out beyond solely providing social services to individuals with HIV/AIDS by opening our first federally qualified health center in Baldwin Hills, the Gleicher/ Chen Health Center. Since opening, this clinic has grown to provide primary care including HIV care, dental and behavioral health services to primarily an LGBT clientele, but also to the local community. In January of 2016, we opened our second clinic in Long Beach, which currently provides primary care services but will also be offering dental and behavioral health sometime this summer. In addition to these two comprehensive clinics, we also offer dental services near downtown and in South Los Angeles, and we have a behavioral health clinic in our headquarters building in Koreatown. APLA is now a community resource not only to the HIV+ community as well as those at risk of HIV but also to the general public.
AIDS Walk funds benefit APLA as well as 20 other local HIV/AIDS community organizations. Last year we raised $2.4 million which was an increase over the previous year, and we are hoping to do better this year as well. While a large percentage of APLA’s funding comes from government grants and contracts, less and less of those grants cover anywhere near 100% of the costs of the programs they fund. As a result, we need to raise private money every year to cover some of our general operating costs, as well as program costs that would not otherwise be covered. AIDS Walk is our largest and most important fundraising event.
I hope you'll help me out by making a contribution. If you don't want to make an online donation, you can send a check, made out to AIDS Walk Los Angeles, to my attention at APLA Health, 611 S. Kingsley Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90005.
Thanks so much for your support. I greatly appreciate it!
